Our father and mother taught us the importance of giving back. It was one of the most meaningful lessons we learned growing up here in Valparaiso, and it’s a lesson that’s stayed with us until today.
We’re committed to Porter County, so we’re committed to giving back.
Our family owned a store in town. We would see families — just like ours — who had gone through a tough time, maybe a fire, or maybe just a hard season on the farm. Our Dad would take them through the store and give them groceries, sometimes even new clothes for the entire family. He never talked about it. He just did it. It was just being a part of the community.

Our Community & Giving Back
These days, our family doesn’t own a store, but we’ve learned to give back in other ways. Whether it’s through a personal passion like The Porter County Reading Foundation, an organization founded by Steven Langer that provides tutors and teaching interns to make sure every child in our county learns to read, or through a a community-wide event like last year’s Charity Choice Competition at the Popcorn Festival that raised thousands for local charities, the principle is the same — we’re committed to Porter County, so we’re committed to giving back.
